Dynamic spectrum access in LTE-advanced networks
نویسندگان
چکیده
As early as 2014, mobile network operators’ spectral capacity will be overwhelmed by the demand brought on by new devices and applications. To augment capacity and meet this demand, operators may choose to deploy a Dynamic Spectrum Access (DSA) overlay. The signaling and functionality required by such an overlay have not yet been fully considered in the architecture of the planned Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE+) networks. This paper presents a Spectrum Accountability framework to be integrated into LTE+ architectures, defining specific element functionality, protocol interfaces, and signaling flow diagrams required to enforce the rights and responsibilities of primary and secondary users. We also quantify, through integer programs, the benefits of using DSA channels to augment capacity under a scenario in which the LTE+ network can opportunistically use TV and GSM spectra. The framework proposed here may serve as a guide in the development of future LTE+ network standards that account for DSA. © 2013 Published by Elsevier B.V.

Implementing opportunistic spectrum access in LTE-Advanced
Long term evolution advanced (LTE-A) has emerged as a promising mobile broadband access technology aiming to cope with the increasing traffic demand in wireless networks. However, the enhanced spectral efficiency offered by LTE-A may become futile without a better management of scarce and overcrowded electromagnetic spectrum. In this sense, cognitive radio (CR) has been proposed as a potential ...
متن کاملTowards Harmonious Coexistence in the Unlicensed Spectrum: Rational Cooperation of Operators
5G New Radio (NR) operating in the unlicensed spectrum is accelerating the Fourth Industrial Revolution by supporting Internet of Things (IoT) networks or Industrial IoT deployments. Specifically, LTE-Advanced (LTE-A) is looking to achieve spectrum integration through coexistence with multi-radio access technology (RAT) systems in the same unlicensed bands with both licensed-assisted and stand-...
متن کاملThe Role of Regulatory in Price Control and Spectrum Allocation to Competing Wireless Access Networks
With the rapid growth of wireless access networks, various providers offer their services using different technologies such as Wi-Fi, Wimax, 3G, 4G and so on. These networks compete for the scarce wireless spectrum. The spectrum is considered to be a scarce resource moderated by the spectrum allocation regulatory (“regulatory” for short) which is the governance body aiming to maximize the socia...

The heterogeneity in cellular networks that comprise multiple base stations’ types imposes new challenges in network planning and deployment. The Radio Resource Management (RRM) techniques, such as dynamic sharing of the available resources and advanced user association strategies determine the overall network capacity and the network/spectrum efficiency. This paper evaluates the downlink perfo...

Long Term Evolution Advanced (LTE-Advanced) network is the continuation of 3GPP-LTE (3GPP: 3rd Generation Partnership Project) and it targets to advanced develop of the requirements of LTE in terms of throughput and coverage. Then, LTEAdvanced is not new as a radio access technology, but it is an evolution of LTE to enhance the performance. LTE-Advanced was accomplished in late of 2010 and it e...
